SteelSeries had just released their new QCK mousepads, now being called the QCK Performance Pads. If you ask me, its a bit too late, but better late than never, right? This refresh was long-awaited by many in the FPS gaming community and something SteelSeries should have considered years ago, but I’m still glad to see they are finally giving us what we want.

The Need for Change

SteelSeries mousepads were at one point amongst the most popular choice for many pro players in the eSports scene, but with new and more modern mousepads being released over the past couple of years from other brands, SteelSeries have been left in the dust. That’s not to say no one is using their mousepads because there still are many users of the QCK, specifically the QCK Heavy. ProSettings, a platform that analyzes what gaming gear professionals are using have indicated that the SteelSeries QCK Heavy is still listed amongst one of the most used mousepads in the eSports scene, but I do believe that’s largely due to sponsorship by the brand.

When it comes to the quality of their traditional QCK pads, it isn’t on par with modern mousepads. Other brands have caught up in recent years and even surpassed SteelSeries in creating better quality, performance, and more reliable mouse mats.

Brands like Artisan have experienced a significant surge in popularity in the last few years as more consumers demand for premium mousepads. They’re known for selling high-quality durable mousepads that you can expect to last many years. In fact, Artisan mousepads consistently rank among the industry’s finest options available today, specifically addressing inconsistencies in gliding experience and overall durability. Artisan established new performance benchmarks that other manufacturers now strive to match, setting the new industry standards.

Finally now in 2025, we get to see SteelSeries releasing the long-awaited upgrade to their mousepad lineup, addressing the market demand for higher quality, more durable surfaces. This new release tackles the core features consumers have been requesting for years, bringing meaningful improvements to performance and longevity. While they haven’t necessarily surpassed industry leaders, SteelSeries has successfully repositioned themselves as a relevant competitor in the premium mousepad market. This update puts their products on par with current standards, making them a viable option once again for discerning gamers seeking quality mousepads in 2025.
